“Ahh great! Thanks for telling everyone and ruining this spot!”

Weird title, no? Well, you’d be surprised how often I get a DM or a comment on @ThatBoiseGirl from a person who is angry at me for sharing their favorite restaurant, coffee spot, bakery, etc … their point is: “this was a hidden gem and now you’ve ruined it because floods of people will know about it and ruin how secret it is” … is secret another word for empty??

I understand when people are mad about content creators sharing a hidden beach or trail or some spot in nature that barely anyone knows about … I do, I get it … someone finds it and blasts it all over Instagram and suddenly this special place in nature gets murdered by people and sometimes disrespected and it’s no longer a special place that only a few people know about. But a business NEEDS people … it needs money to survive … it needs customers … so if it’s your favorite place, wouldn’t you want it to be successful?

I know that there are content creators out there who ruin it for the group … whether they are a ‘bot account’ who buys fake views, fake shares, fake likes, and fake followers and takes advantage of businesses or if they walk around with the idea that ‘they are special’ because they have some followers on social media and treat the businesses like sh*t … those types of content creators do exist and it sucks for sure … but when I have one of my reels explode for a business and I get a message from the business owner telling me that I helped “turn their business around” or that “they were close to having to close down and my reel helped give them the boost they needed” it makes what I do worth it.

So, if you have a special business that you love because it’s quiet and empty and it’s easy to get a table by the window anytime you want, you might consider that it’s nice for you, but quite possibly not nice at all for the business owners … you might think to reach out to your favorite content creators from the area and say: “this place is so incredible and could use some promotion … I love it so much and I want other people to know about it too and help support them” …

XO~ Heather
